SGT.-PILOT FOTHERIXGHAM
Advice has been received by Mrs M- Fotheringham, of 31, Kitchener Road, Takapuna, that her son, Ser-geant-Pilot Robert Fotheringham, of the New Zealand Bomber Squadron, has been reported missing. Although he had not been granted a commission, Sergeant-Pilot Fotheringham has been commanding an aircraft in recent months.
Educated at King's College, Ser-geant-Pilot Fotheringham enlisted with the Air Force soon after the outbreak of war and left for overseas last August. He attended the Levin ground-training school where he went through the same course as Sergeant-Pilot I. L. Reid. The two
left together for England in company with a large draft of trained air personnel, and on arrival were given a further course of specialised instruction for bomber aircraft. Both have been engaged as pilots in operations over Germanv and enemy-occupied territory. SergeantPilot Reid was reported missing a fortnight ago.
Sergeant-Pilot Fotheringham, who is aged 29, was well known as a golfer, being a prominent member of the North Shore Club, and was also an enthusiastic tennis player. He is a grandson of Mr. E. W. Alison and a nephew of Mr. Evven Alison. A cousin, Pte. G. Alison, was killed in action during the Greek evacuation.
