WOMEN SUCCESSFUL
ELECTION TO BOARD AUCKLAND GRAMMAR SCHOOLS For the first time in the history of the Auckland Grammar School IJuard both the parents' representatives, elected yesterday by postal ballot, arc women. Miss K. I. Patterson and Mrs. P. A. MacDiarmid were the successful candidates, and the voting was as follows: — Miss F. 1. Patterson 953, Mrs. P. A. MacDiarmid 907, Miss M. C. M. Anderson 711. Mr. A. St. C. Brown 703. Mr. \Y. Ward Baker 418.
Messrs. Brown and Baker were the retiring members.
Miss Patterson is a former pupil of the Auckland Girls' Grammar School. She graduated Master of Arts at the Auckland I'niversitv College and took up teaching. After being assistant at the Onehunga District High School. Miss Patterson was for seven years a member of the staff of the Auckland Girls' Grammar School. She was the first mistress of the JEpsom Girls' Grammar School for 1 i years. and before her retirement in 1 !»;i7 held the position of act ing-hc;.dmistrcss. She has made two trips overseas to study education in other countries. Mrs. MacDiarmid graduated Master of Arts with honours at Otago niversitv College, and later took the degree of Doctor of Literatu-c She was a teacher in New Zealand secondary schools before going as a missionary to Africa, where she was associated with the educational authorities of the Anglo-Egvptian Sudan.
