MAIL FOR AIRMEN

CORRECT ADDRESSES SAVE POSSIBLE DELAY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, in a statement, emphasised the necessity for ensuring that correct addresses are given to facilitate the delivery of cablegrams, letters and parcels to New Zealand airmen serving overseas. "Complaints have been received that parcels, letters and cablegrams 1 addressed to New Zealand airmen i serving overseas, particularly in Canada, are being unduly delayed in : transit or not reaching their destinations," the Minister said. "In many ' cases investigations reveal that the 1 trouble is due to insufficient or ini correct addresses. * "The correct method of address for New Zealand airmen overseas is as follows:—Number, N.Z. 123456 r rank, sergeant; name, Brown - initials, J. J.; trade, observer; care r of Royal Canadian Air Force Head t quarters, Jackson's Buildings V Ottawa, Canada, or New Zealanc High Commissioner, 415, The Strand London, W.C.2, Royal Air Force Middle East, Cairo. r' "it will be noted that the number rank, name, initials and trade ar given in that order, followed by th distributing office in the country ii which the airman is located," adde Mr. Jones. "The numbers of all Nev /■ Zealand airmen are prefixed by th , e letters N.Z. It is important for thi U prefix to identify the individual a [i an airman, as New Zealand arm d numbers do not have a similar prefix s- "It sometimes happens that an ai is man's number (without the lettei p N.Z.) will correspond with a numbe id [allocated to a soldier. This leads t re some delay while records ar Lc searched and checked. If an airman )r [current number 'including th s-|letters N.Z.) is given will great! isiassist in ensuring that possible coi !fusion or delays will be avoided."
