CASTING VOTE

KATES RAISED XD ONLY In accordance with a previous resolution the Takapuna Borough Council made and levied rates increased by a halfpenny only for the year 1941-42 at a special meeting last night. The motion was carried on the casting vote of the Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven. The Mayor and Messrs. C L. Clifton, G. M. Galbraith, C. A. Snedden and C. H. M. ills voted for the motion, and Messrs. R. N. White. F. H. Carr, C. V. Holyoake. J. S. Wilcox and A. K McFarlane dissented, since in their view the halfpenny increase was insufficient to cover necessary expenditure.

Mr. Guiniven said his reason for exercising the easting vote was because many ratepavers had evinced surprise that the rates had been raised at all.
