IF EMERGENCY ARISES
HAMILTON IS PREPARED (0.C.) HAMILTON, Wednesday. Preparations made in Hamilton to cope with a war emergency were outlined by the Mayor, Mr. H. D. Caro, at a meeting of the central committtee of the Hamilton Emergency Precautions Scheme to-day. The arrangements included the evacuation of schools, transport and communication, the provision of adequate emergency food supplies, the maintenance of water and electricity supplies by the installation of standby engines and pumps, and the dissemination of information.
Mr. Caro said supplies of fuel were being provided for, while a firefighting and traffic control corps was being enrolled. Advanced dressing stations had been established and the personnel was being trained. More men were required as stretcherbearers and for special traffic and fire police. Everything was in order and he was satisfied that should an emergency arise there was a first-class organisation available to deal with it successfully. Mr. Caro again advised householders to keep a supply of iron rations in hand. The medical committee was asked to prepare a list of those willing to donate blood for transfusion purposes. Dr. H. L. Gould said that about 60 donors had come forward, but many mere were wanted.
