INFORMAL RECEPTION MAYORESS WELCOMED In honour of the Mayoress, Mrs. J. A. C. Allum, and members of the committee who arrange the work at Yorkshire House under the auspices of the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Committee, an informal reception was given yesterday by the president and council members of the Catholic Women's League.

Mrs. M. Pilling, president of the league, welcomed the guests and paid a tribute to the work carried out at Yorkshire House. She would like Mrs. Allum to know that the members of the league were ready to be called on in any emergency and ready to help her in every way with her duties as Mayoress.

Mrs. Allum said she was keenly interested in the work of the league, which she regarded as a Christian organisation which had taken its part in all the progressive movements in the city. She congratulated the league members on the patriotic work they were undertaking, which included, among many other activities, the raising of funds and the entertaining of men of the three services at the week-ends. Miss B. E. Carnachan, convener of the Yorkshire House committee, also paid a tribute to the assistance given to the committee by league members.

In addition to the Mayoress, the Yorkshire House committee present included Lady Davis, Mrs. A. D. Campbell. Mrs. H. Cadness, Mrs. W. T. Anderton, Mrs. J. McCallum, Miss B. E. Carnachan and Miss E. M. Goldsworthy.
