W. A. A. F.
MAY SOON BEGIN DUTY
The smart uniform of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force has made its appearance at New Plymouth, but it will soon be no novelty, for it is understood that in a few weeks the first draft of W.A.A.F.'s will begin duty at the Bell Block air school, states an exchange. The W.A.A.F. has been in existence only a few months in New Zealand, but already many members are engaged at Royal New Zealand Air Force stations. There are many jobs on the ground staff which women can do as well as, or better than, men and their employment releases manpower for other "duties. It is believed that not many young Taranaki women have so far been trained in the W.A.A.F.. but approximately 100 have enlisted and are awaiting the next sitting of the air force selection committee to know whether they will be accepted for service. It is understood that the sitting of the committee will be held at New Plymouth sometime next month.
