PROBATION ABUSED
(0.C.) PUKEKOHE, Wednesday.
A sentence of two months' imprisonment with hard labour was imposed on a young man, Harry Boyce Lauder, for failing to comply with terms of probation fixed by the Supreme Court.
Sergeant T. Kelly stated that Lauder had been admitted to probation for three years on September 7, 1939, on a conviction for forging and uttering. One of the conditions was that he should make restitution of £30 and pay £10 to cover the cost of the prosecution. He had reported to the probation officer at Papakura for some time and had paid £15 10/. Over recent months, however, he had discontinued reporting and had ceased his payments. He was liable to be called up for service with the forces, but had failed to enrol, and he had also not been paying his social security registration levy.
