PROTECTION SOCIETY
COMING CONFERENCE
SOCIAL WELFARE QUESTIONS
Chief business at the monthly meeting of the executive committee of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was consideration of remits for discussion at the forthcoming conference, to be held in Wellington on July 30. Mr. Dawson Donaldson presided.
It was stated that the purpose of the conference was to secure coordination of effort in matters fundamental to the objects for which the societies were established. Delegates from the four main centres would attend. Those from the Auckland branch would be the chairman, Mr. D. Donaldson, and the secretary, Mrs. Amy M. Hutchinson.
Among the remits going from the Auckland branch were several pertaining to child welfare and others referring to the question of military allowance for soldiers' dependents.
It was announced that the final report on the Queen Charlotte Hospital Fund showed a total amount of £264 11/6 donated. This sum had been transmitted to the hospital through the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council. Grateful thanks and appreciation were offered to all those who so generously contributed to this amount.
The financial statement presented by the secretary showed a satisfactory position which had been materially enhanced by the receipt of a grant from Government funds through the Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs.
