FOR OVERSEAS
BALLOT ON AUG. 6
ELIGIBLE SINGLE MEN
TERRITORIAL LIST LATER (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of National Service, the Hon. R. Semple, stated to-day that all men remaining in class A of the first division of the General Reserve—that is men who have attained the age of 21 years but who have not attained the age of 41 years —will be called up for service overseas with the Second N.Z.E.F. on August 6.
"Preliminary work is at present in hand," said Mr. Semple, "and the names will be published in a Gazette to be issued at 8.30 on the morning of August 6. Medical examination of the men will be proceeded with immediately after that date.
"It is advisable, therefore, that all men concerned, whilst continuing meantime in their normal employment, should place their private affairs in order as soon as possible so that they may be available for posting to camp at short notice. As men at present under the age attain the age of 21 years they will become liable for overseas service and periodically they will be called up by Gazette for service with the Second N.Z.E.F.
"Following on the calling up of men for overseas service a further ballot will be held to provide men for the Territorial Force. A Gazette containing the names of all men of 18 and 19 and 41 to 45 years of age who are at present in the ballot register will be published on August 19. It is anticipated that the majority of these territorials will be required to enter camp early in September or October."
