NEVER REGISTERED

t.0.C.) DUNEDIN, Monday. A sentence of six weeks' imprisonment was imposed on Edward Ernest Griffiths (30) on a charge of failing to enrol in the first division of the National Reserve. It was stated that accused had not registered under the Social Security Act nor the Employment Act, and that he had never possessed a levy book, with the result that he had not paid any unemployment levy. Counsel stated that Griffiths, when in his apprenticeship, had neglected to register, and later was afraid to divulge this fact. Actually, counsel added, Griffiths wished to enlist but was unable to give a registration number.
