Th J| British Government has asked the British Ambassador at Ankara Sir Hugh Knatchbull-Hugessen, to convey to the Turkish Government a message of great concern and sympathy for the loss which Turkev has suffered by the outrageous Axis action in sinking the steamship Rifha with serious loss of lifeAccording to an earlier message 173 of the Rifha's 201 passengers were drowned when she was torpedoed by an unidentified submarine. The Rifha was on her way to Egypt carrying 100 naval officers and men who were described as the cream of the Turkish Navy and mercantile marine. Italy and Germany had agreed to the vessel's safe passage.
