SEA COOK'S REQUEST STOLE I'AIR OF CUM BOOTS A sea cook, John Williams (J5), appeared in the Police Court before justices this morning and pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a pair ol gum boots valued at £1 5/. the property of H. M. Wade. y Senior-Sergeant Joyce said Williams drank a bottle of methylated spirits yesterday morning and another bottle in the afternoon. Then lie went to the front of a shop and stole the gum boots. Going down to the wharves he threw his own boots into the sea and put on the gum boots. "Later he called at the police station and asked to be arrested." added Mr. Joyce. "He said he wanted 12 months' imprisonment so that he could get the methylated spirits out of his system, but possibly if he got a shorter term it might" have the desired effect. This is the first time he has been in trouble for dishonesty."' The Bench sentenced Williams to 14 days imprisonment.
