EMPIRE GAMES ATHLETE

Lieutenant P. F. Sharplcy, New Zealand 120 yds and 220 yds hurdles champion, has been meeting with success in competition in Cairo. Sharpley. who represented the Dominion at the British Empire Games in Sydney in 1938. competed in the Cairo track and field championships on March 29 and 30. and won the 110 metres hurdles in 16 3-">s, after only a week's preparation. Sharplev also ran second in a beat of the 100 metres flat, but was unplaced in the final. Besides winning both national hurdles events at Napier. 1939. and Wellington. 1940. Sharplev also annexed the 100 yds flat title in the former year.
