Sowings and plantings should be made in raised beds. Artichokes will grow in almost any soil or situation. Plant the tubers from now on in rows 2ft apart, sin deep. Get on with Strawberry planting while there is still time. Rhubarb crowns can be planted. They need rich soil and abundant vegetable manure. Asparagus should also be planted in specially prepared beds. This is a useful period for overhauling and sharpening garden tools. Sharp spades and hoes are half the battle.
