SPLENDID RESPONSE
PROTECTION SOCIETY'S APPEAL,
. Great satisfaction at the result of the appeal made by the Society for the Protection of Women and Children on behalf of the Queen Charlotte's Maternity Hospital. London, was expressed at the monthly meeting of the executive committee. It was reported that the sum of £250 2/6 had been received and had been forwarded to London through the Patriotic Council. A total of 98 cases was dealt with during the month. Maintenance to the sum of £273 was received and disbursed for clients. A case was cited of a pension anomaly in which a man of G5 who had been invalided by an accident was in receipt of age benefit which provided only 5/ per week for his wife and two young children. Yet, it was pointed out, if the man were younger he would qualify for an invalid pension which would bring in £3 per week. It was clear that better provision was needed for the dependents of men too old and too ill to work.
