TAKING OFFICE
CITY'S NEW MAYOR CEREMONY TOMORROW The installation will take place to-morrow at noon of Mr. J. A. C. Allum, as Mayor of Auckland, at the municipal chamber at the Town Hall. After making the usual statutory declaration, Mr. Allum will he robed and invested with the Mavoral chain of office by the retiring Mayor Sir Ernest Davis.
r l he new Mayor will call on the newly-elected members of the Auckland City Council to come forward and make their statutory declarations. The first meeting of the newlyconstituted City Council will be held on Thursday evening.
DEVONPORT GIFT
A meeting of Devonport citizens was held last night to consider the matter of making suitable recognition of the services of Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, who has been Mayor of the borough for the past ten years, and who has now retired. It was decided to present Mr. Meikle with a copy of the Jubilee booklet, bound in leather, together with a cheque. The committee believe there are manv friends of Mr. and Mrs. Meikle who would like to contribute to the presentation.
