FIVE ON END
FORM AT FOXTON SUNNY KNIGHT BRILLIANT (0.G.) WANGANUI, Monday. An interesting runner in the Hurdles at the Foxton meeting at Levin on Saturday was Ruatiti. The son of Limond had shown such good promise in his schooling essays that he was expected to run well, but he was never going like a winner. He pig-jumped the first obstacle, being under a strong hold, but afterwards jumped well, although he failed to show the pace expected of him on the flat. However, he can be ticked off as one likely to win a hurdle race or two shortly. Ruatiti is engaged at the Wangauui meeting this week-end.
The hurdlers seen out at Levin were a moderate lot, and Golden Memory, after a long series of efforts managed to score a win. He will be a runner at the Wangauui meeting and will be one of the fancied ones. Te__ Oriko. winner of the Trial Stakes at Fcilding on Saturday, looks likely to go on to better things. He was nearly down through slipping at the start, but soon drew up to a handy position, running into the lead in the straight to go on and win easily. Te Oriko is a four-year-old gelding by Wheriko—Musical Moments, and is trained at Marton by K. C. MeHugh.
The Wanganui-owncd Magnifier failed to run up to his track form and was never prominent. He is a highly-strung gelding by Siegfried and may come good later if he becomes more solid.
Sunny Knight won the hack six as he liked, lending all the way with 9.11 on his back. Me came out again in the fivefurlong flutter with 10.8 and won again with the greatest of ease. This made his filth successive win. and he is now out of hack company, although lie will be able to run out his nominations at the Wanganui meeting. Originally given 10.2 in the Borough Hack next Saturday, the Gainscourt gelding will now have his burden increased and he will thu6 he set a very difficult However, Sunny Knight is an exceptionally brilliant hack, and one sure to do well in open company.
Amigo drew a wide berth in the Foxton Cup. and was kept three horses out all the way. He was pulling hard in the earlier stages, instead of being allowed to run along, and this, with the extra ground he covered, settled his prospects. Although he was beaten at the distance, he must be credited with running a great race in the circumstances. The Beau Pere gelding is not engaged at the Wanganui meeting. and his next appearance will probably be in the Winter Cup at Awapuni next month.
French Law scored his first win this term in the Foxton Cup. but now that he has struck form he is likely to place other successes to his credit shortly. He is engaged in the Connolly Handicap at the Wanganui meeting on Saturday and will not want for friends. Trench Law should in the Connolly Handicap next Saturday beat all those he met on Saturday. but 'I he Monarch was unlucky in having to make up too much ground in the straight, and he is likely to make a bold bid at Awapuni. Some fresh horses will, however, be seen out on Saturday, and Trench Law will have tough opposition. jt
