SOCIAL CREDIT

THE ALBERTA BUDGET

A talk on Alberta's latest budget by Mr. F. D. Danks was a feature of a meeting in the Social Credit rooms on Wednesday. The speaker said that this budget was considered by Canadians the finest legislative effort put into operation in any country in either peace or war time. It provided for a reduction of the provincial debt by 10,000,000 dollars without any new taxation for the current year. The three per cent bonus to consumers given on the removal of the sales tax in 1937 was raised to 5 per cent, thus making goods cheaper by 10 per cent than they were four years ago. Instead of higher wages the country had cheaper goods and a consequent check on inflation. Farmers and business people, said the speaker, had benefited largely.
