Disqualified In a Walk-over
R" AND WICK has seen many walk-overs, although horses that ■ figured in them had to complete the course. ■ ■ Probably the most sensational was in July, 1877, when Mr. 1 S H. Terry's Priam completed the mile and a quarter course in ! a Selling Stakes at Randwick. Unfortunately his owner forgot to i weigh him out at 7.11, and when his rider weighed in it was ■ discovered that he had carried 9.0. Priam was disqualified and ! his owner was fined £2. • In 1873 Mr. P. Glenister rode his own horse, Gaffer Grey, and J • completed two miles of the Corinthian Hurdle to secure a walk- ■ i over. In the next race, the Randwick Hurdle, Gaffer Grey, with ■ ■ 11.7, starting a hot favourite, ran second. J J Mr. G. F. Want's No Doubt had a walk-over in the Hunt Club ■ i Cup, of three miles, in 1875. No Doubt had to complete the J ■ course as did Receipt, also owned by Mr. Want, in the two miles , S and a half Midsummer Cup in 1877. ■ 1...........................—.——————J
