The Week-End Pictorial

]N consequence of the limitation of imports of newsprint imposed by the Government as one of the measures designed to save overseas exchange, We are compelled, in addition to reducing the number of pages in the daily paper, to suspend publication as separate features our Week-end Pictorial and our coloured section. Saturday next will see the last issue of these two sections, which in years past have afforded such pleasure to our readers. The total supplies of newsprint which we are permitted under license from the Ministry of Supplies to import during this and the coming year are so small that if publication of these features were continued our reserves would be completely exhausted before the end of this year, and we therefore have no option but to discontinue this service to our readers until such time as a more liberal policy towards 'purchases abroad is possible. , < For over half a century the "Auckland Star" has issued with every Saturday paper a magazine of week-end reading, and for more than twenty years the four-coloured section recounting the adventures of the Katzenjammer Kids, Mr. Jiggs, Dinglehoofer and his dog Schnappsy, and Rosie and her beau have received the delighted approval of children of every age. We share the regret which we know will be felt by our readers at the loss of these two attractive features, but unfortunately there was no possibility of saving them as separate sections. We will, however, maintain as many of ihcir outstanding features as the limitations imposed upon us will permit. The children's special section, now incorporated in the colour pages, will appear in our Thursday's issue. It will be reduced to half a page, but the features which have proved most interesting and attractive to the juvenile mind will be retained. Some of the Week-end Pictorial features will appear during the Week, while others, including special articles of topical interest, the returned soldiers' and film columns and fcaluieu of interest to women readers will find a place in our Saturday' s issue.
