NEW MOTOR PLATES
AUCKLAND RELICENSING
APPLICATIONS RISE DAILY
Motor relicensing operations at the main Auckland depot in the rear of the Chief Post Office have been increasing steadily this week, and the daily average of licenses issued is now well above 1000. Yesterday the figure was nearly 1200. The total for the month so far is, however still below that of the corresponding period of last May. With more commodious quarters in use the Department has been able to cope with the work with a minimum of delay. The busiest time is usually from midday onwards, but the officials have not been unduly rushed at any period of the day. To assist in avoiding heavy congestion at the counters, and consequent delay, on the last few days of next week owners of vehicles are urged to make their applications as soon as possible. In each case the applications must be accompanied by the numbers of the plates at present affixed and also the engine and chassis numbers.
All motor vehicles must bear the new black and white plates on June 1. The new issue of petrol coupons to replace those remaining in the hands of motorists is being made as cars are relicensed, and motor insurance is also being paid at the same time.
