WELLINGTON, this day The existence of proposed legislation, dealing with river control fnd nf°P°,w ?Va «r de ? ied by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon H T Armstrong in an interview "last evening. He said that judging bv communications he had received from a number of local bodies, there appeared to be an impression that wi^ G^Yernment h£ L d a biu dealing with this question, but that was not Mr. Armstrong said that all the Government had decided to do wai to have an investigation made into the whole question of river control irom the point of view of damage caused by flooding and erosion A select committee of the House of Representatives, which was known hL^t^^SiP?* , " 01 Committee, had been appointed for this purpose The committee had just started its investigations, having held its initial meeting only, it was to meet again on Tuesday to hear representations fiom local bodies as a basis for investigation. The Government had not had an opportunity to consider proposals formulated by the Public Works Department, but it would do so after the committee had ascertained the views of the people most vitally concerned.
