American Pressure On French

Indo-China ; "ANTIPATHY TO VICHY" ' Rec. 11 a.m. LONDON", May 20. Tokyo newspapers claim that the United States lias strongly warned the French Indo-China Government not to follow the lead of the Vichy Government towards the Axis. The "Yomiuri" declares that the warning is an expression of American antipathy towards Vichy, and also an attempt to disturb Japanese Indo-China rapprochement. A Washington message says that Mr. Cordell Hull denied the statement in the Tokyo "Yomiuri" alleging that the United States had sent a strong Note to Indo-China warning her against alignment with the Axis. The French Ambassador, M. Henri Haye. informed Mr. Cordell Hull that France will resist any attempt to take over any part of her Empire anywhere. lie protested against (the United States' action in placing [coastguards on French ships.
