GOOD MARGIN
NEW CITY LEADER MAJORITY OF 1332 VOTES With a vote of 16,244, the deputyMayor'and Citizens' candidate, Mr. I A. C. Allum, was returned as Mayor of Auckland. He had a majority of 1332 votes over his next opponent, Mr. J. Sayegh, the official Labour candidate. The other Mayoral candidates were Mr. C. Bailey, a former member of the City Council. who stood as an independent and got'loo4 votes, and Mr. J. W. Payne, who polled 218 votes. Mrs. M. M. Dreaver was the only official Labour candidate to be returned to the City Council, and the other 20 seats were captured by the Citizens' candidates. The result of the election was as follows:— J. A. C. Allum (C) 16,244 J.
