TOBACCO FOR BRITAIN
America Has Supplies Ready
For Shipment
PRISONERS' ISSUE STOPPED British Official Wireless. Rec. 2 p.m. RUGBY, May 15. America has agreed to send tobacco under the Lease-or Lend Act, according to an announcement by Mr. A. H. Macwell, tobacco controller. Supplies sufficient for all Britain's needs are already awaiting shipment. More tobacco was being released from bond than ever in the history of the industry.
Information having been received that Germany has discontinued the free issue of cigarettes to British prisoners of war, the War Office in consequence will take parallel action where German prisoners of war are concerned. This does not mean, however, that parcels of tobacco and cigarettes dispatched from Britain are not reaching prisoners in Germany. There is much evidence that the parcels are getting through quite regularly. Prisoners are also able to purchase cigarettes at the camp canteens, but. obviously the quality is by no means the same.
