STREET APPEAL
YUGOSLAV GIRLS
BIG EFFORT TO-MORROW
The arrangements for to-morrow's street collection were detailed today by Mr. J. M. Totich, Consul for Yugoslavia. Mr. Totich said that the total proceeds from collections throughout the day would be paid to the Fighting Forces Fund. This was intended to be a gesture by local Yugoslav residents, who were unable at the present time to do anything for their own land, and accordingly wished to help the land of their adoption. Collection stalls would be erected in Queen Street and Karangahape Road, and these would be manned by Yugoslav girls from 8 a.m. During the morning the numbers of these girls would be supplemented by girls being arranged through the Y.W.C.A. "It will be necessary," said Mr. Totich, "to do nothing which will in any way interfere with the traffic organisation. This is worked out on an elaborate scale and is very comprehensive. Accordingly all stalls will be removed before 1 p.m. and from then onwards Yugoslav and local girls will line the route of the parade.". During the morning a decorated float, conveying the Yugoslav orchestra, would visit the various stalls and play for a short time in front of each. • He concluded by saying that already he had received numerous signs'of appreciation of the action of Yugoslav residents in this effort to help the local Fighting Forces Fund, and he was sure the response from the Auckland public would on this occasion indicate appreciation of the steps being taken by his countrymen.
