WHARF WORK.
Isn t it about time that an official inquiry m some kind is made to discover the reason why there are always so many more men to apply for work I>n the wharves in the evenings and woek-ends than through the nay. It is a fart that workers irom other well-known Auckland firms and other occupations make a habit of working in the evenings regularly on the v. harves. One also constantly hearing >>; others who work there in their paid holidays from other firms. I hese are the workers who ■would immediatelv go on strike at the bare idea of their 40-hour week being lengthened. If these men .us. s. > fond of wharf work, whv don't thev eive up their 40-hour week jobs and just trv their luck at it regularly, instead of first making sure of their week's wages and 'hen going down to take the work av. a.\ from those who trv to make a living at it.
