Enemy Attacks Docks And
Arsenal,
United Press Association.—Copyright. (Recti. 12.30 p.m.) LOXDOX, April IS. Processions of enemy planes heavily attacked Portsmouth last night. The raid began soon after dark and lasted several hours. The bright orange Hashes of exploding bombs lit up the sky, and houses were constantly shaken. Bombs in another area extensively damaged a number of houses, killed four children and one woman and injured several others. The German news agency stated that strong formation attacked Portsmouth and that ITiere. were large (ires in the region of the dockyards and the arsenal. An Air Ministry and Ministry of Home Security communique states that the attack lasted most of the night, but the. casualties were light and the damage was not severe. Southern, eastern and north-eastern England were also raided, but the casualties were few. Xo substantial damage was done. Three raiders are known to have been destroyed during the night, two by antiaircraft fire in the attack on Portsmouth.
