FLOODS AT EASTER. (0.C.) SUVA, April 14. i The Easter holidays turned out very Iwet, and many sporting fixtures had to 'be. abandoned. Many people made the trip to Levuka, where bowling and cricket matches had been arranged. The rain wae fairly general throughout the group, and several floodings and landslides were reported. The river at Vunidawa was ahout 2~>ft above normal on Easter Saturday, and at Navua the river was in. high flood, with the Deuba jbridge under water. Heavy rains were also reported from Tailevu, with the (Wainibuka in high flood, but here the (water receded fairly rapidly. It is notified in the Fiji Royal Gazette that April 21 will be observed as a public holiday throughout the colony for the celebration of the birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess
Elizabeth. It is alr=o notified in the Gazette that his Excellency the Governor has afforded provisional recognition to Mr. Wainwright Abbott as Consul for the United States in Suva, with jurisdiction in the colony of Fiji, with effect from. April 7. Building applications to a value of £7710 were dealt with by the Suva Town Board at its last meeting. The principal item in the list was £2000 for a new fuel oil storage tank. There is a shortage in some lengths, of timber, and some building materials, but there is a good deal of repair work being done as the result of the recent hurricane.
