GET ON WITH THE JOB.
Now that the Easter holidays arc over and work has begun again on its normal pre-war course —even for those who "borrowed" an extra day or two to add to the holiday period—it is time that the Dominion took stock of its responsibilities and its dangers, and began generally to realise that this normal pre-war course is not enough. Many thousands of men have been withdrawn from industry for the fighting services; their maintenance, and that of the whole war effort, falls upon a steadily diminishing number of workers, using the term in its widest sense, and it is essential that no delay, no wastage of effort should be permitted to hamstring our work for victory. In fact delay and wastage are still crippling the national effort just as they did in time of peace, with little recognition on anybody's part of the havoc they are wreaking on both our war effort and our national economy. It is time that New Zealand woke up to the seriousness of the situation, and the resumption of work after a long week-end interruption should be a reminder to all classes of the community that this is a time for sacrifice and for the exertion of that extra energy and efficiency without which neither as a nation nor as individuals will we deserve victory.
