A HUGE INCREASE.

OTTAWA. Production of newsprint in Canada for the year 1940 aggregated 3,418,803 tons, which represented an increase of 549,537 .tons over the 1939 total and compared with 3,647,800 tons for the peak year 1937.

Shipments during the year totalled 3,434,934 tons and were 574,732 tons higher than shipments for the preceding year. In 1937, shipments amounted to 3,654,(569 tons.
