ESPERANTISTS MEET.

NEW OFFICERS ELECTED

In common with most organisations, the Auckland Esperanto Society has found that with the blackout and general war conditions there has been a slight drop in membership, but all present at the annual meeting of the society expressed the opinion that there will be a wonderful opportunity for a revival of interest in the language after the war. Ev t -n now, it was pointed out, the British authorities, including Winston Churchill, have asked British Lsperantists to correspond with French people as much as possible.

The annual report showed that the past year had been a successful one, both from the point of view of finance and from that of teaching newcomers.

Mr. 11. Thorns, who has been president for several years, stated that he could not continue in office as he was being transferred to Christehurch and had also been called up for overseas service. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mr. C. Brandon; vice-presidents, Messrs. Hume. Jenkins, Bellhouse and Ivicevic: secretary, Mrs. H. Harris; treasurer, Mrs. M. A. Kennerley; publicity organiser, Mr. J. G. Kennerley.

Ifc_ was resolved to press further for the inclusion of the language in the school syllabus as soon as possible, as Esperanto was recognised as the finest secondary language in the world.

It was also decided to continue the classes at the Rest-a-while rooms every Thursday evening as the main centre and at the same time carry on other classes whenever and wherever they could be arranged.
