FOUND WITH OPIUM.

YOUNG- WOMAN FINED £25.

Arrested on Thursday morning by Detective-Sergeant F. Brady, a domestic, Violet May Pivac (27), appeared in in the Police. Court on a charge of being found in possession of prepared opium.

Detective-Sergeant Nalder said that Detective-Sergeant Brady, accompanied by the police matron, visited accused's room in Nelson Street and found an opium pipe in the lining of fur coat, airl an opium lamp and some prepared opium in another part of the room. Accused admitted she had been taking opium, and that she had paid 16/ for two packets found in her possession.

Appearing for accused, Mr. J. J. Sullivan said she had been suffering from neuralgia, and had taken the drug to alleviate the pain.

Mr. J. Morling, S.M., imposed a fine of ;£2«.
