HOME GUARD.
AUCKLAND PARADE.
6000 MEN TO TAKE PART.
Advice lias boon received by the Auckland area commander of the Home Guard, Major A. YV. Short, V.1)., that the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Xewall. will inspect a parade of the Home Guard units of Xo. 1 area, to be held at the Doriiain on April 27. at 2.30 p.m. His Excellency will take the salute and will also address the parade.
Accompanying Sir Cyril will be the Mayor of Auckland, Sir Ernest Davis Colonel M. Aldred. V.D., district commander. and it is hoped that the Dominion commander, Maior-General R \oung, C.8., C.M.G., D.5.0., will aW> attend the parade.
It is now five months since recruiting for the Home Guard began in the Xo. 1 area and the enrolments to date, including the sub-areas of Franklin and Rodney Counties number approximate] v 10,000. It is anticipated that at least (jOOO of these will be 011 parade. Up to the present Home Guard battalions in the Auckland area have not been paraded for an inspection, although this lias been done in many other centres.
The coming parade is designed to give opportunity for reviewing the men who have enrolled, with the object of finding out the numbers available for each particular branch in the home defence scheme.
The drill movements in the p».rade will be formation in column ~f companies and a march past in column of route, and will therefore not entail the .-pecial preparation that would ordinarily necessary foe a-ceremonial parade.
