LONDON, April 11
Berlin newspapers promise their readers that an armistice will be forced on Yugoslavia before April 13, "enabling the full weight of the German forces to be thrown against Grecce. German claims have apparently convinced Hungary, because the Budapest radio hints that the Regent, Admiral Horthy, now intends to join the war against King Peter."
Budapest radio announced that the Hungarian Army has occupied Yugoslav territory between the Danube and the Yisza Rivers, which was awarded to Yugoslavia in ,1918. It is also claimed that Yugoslav bombers twice unsuccessfully attempted to raid Budapest on Thursday.
The German news agency claims that Dr. Matcliek, Vice-Premier of Yugoslavia, lias announced that he will enter the independent Croat Government under the leadership of Anton Pavelic, head of the terrorists, who is reputed to havft been responsible for the assassination of King Alexander of Yugoslavia in Marseilles in 1930.
A special communique issued earlier by the German High Command from Berlin says: "German forces entered Zagreb arnid the jubilation of the population."
The German official news agency later announced that Croatia had been proclaimed an independent State under Anton Pavelich, the Croat Quisling. A Croat general, Kyeternik, broadcast from Zagreb calling 011 the army to take the oath of allegiance to the new State.
A Rome message says the Budapest | correspondent of the Stefani news agency states that the Hungarian Regent, Admiral Horthy. issued a proclamation Hungary's desire ."for close and friendly relations with the new Croat State," and-ordering .the
Hungarian army to "defend Hungarian populations living in Yugoslav territory." The agency message adds that an emergency meeting of the Hungarian Cabinet was summoned, and shortly afterwards the Regent successively received the Prime Minister, von Bardossy. the Minister of Defence, and the Chief of the General Staff. Another puppet State, Slovakia, is also noisily announcing the breaking off of relations with Yugoslavia.
