Following a stop work mooting on Thursday minors employed at ixamo collieries did not ro]>oit for work on the afternoon shift. According to tho mine managei. .T. Maekint-on. the <lispute concerned replacement of a numltor of men who now wish to continue in the employ of the company after having plev iously handed in their rosir»nat ions in writing. Five men who drew what they eonisidercd to lie unsatisfactory places in the mine when the quarterl'v cavil was made a fortnight ago. decided to seek employment elsewhere. Immediately after the drawing of avil they handed in written notice of their intention to leave the mine. On Thursday afternoon a delegation <>f the Coalniiuers* Union waited on Mr. Maekin«on. intimating that it was desired that three of the live men who had handed in their notices bo allowed to iniitiiiiic their employment at Ixamo, the other two having gone elsewhere.
Mr. Mackinson pointed out that tho company must keep faith with (.lie men who had been engaged to meet tho position caused by the resignation of the miners concerned. Tho union delegates indicated that unless the t'.ree men worked on Tuesday the mine would be idle.
'T heard nothing more from tho union officials.'' Mr. Mackinson said. "The stop-work meeting evidently decided to commence a strike straight away as the afternoon shift did not go on. The mine should resume after Faster at 7 a.m. on Tuesdav.
The president of the Kamo Minors' Union, Mr. W. Davidson, said he was unable to make a statement until Tuesday morning.
