Yachts at Rotorua.

FRESH WATER TITLES. Boats Race in Steady South-west Breeze. (Special Reporter.) ROTORUA. this day. Over 70 boats competed to-day on Lake Rotorua in a series of races for the fresh water championships of New Zealand in six classes. The weather was perfect with bright sunshine and a steady off-shore breeze, giving smooth water. A large attendance of visitors, fully 2000 people, witnessed the races. The contests have been worked up in three years from 12 boats to the present number of 70. Boats competed from Auckland. Hamilton. Tauranga. The Mount and Opotiki. Auckland boats competing were the 18-footers Karu and Taire. the 14-footers Endeavour. Tempest. Malvina. M'Tala. Lightning. Assassin. Ka*idy Kid. Suzanne, and eight Frostbites. Handicap events were held In six classes. Results:— 18-Footers.—There *~re four starters over the 10-mile course. The f.iiish wa*: Karu 3h 27m 20s. Taire 3h 3Vm 35s Toi 3h 30m 555. Kiwa 3h 33m 2s. Result: Taire (W. Bates) 1, Toi 2. Karu 3. 14-Footers.—A field of 17 competed over a course of nine miles, giving a test on all points. N. Wing's snubnosod Wai-iti. from Hamilton, led all the way, finishing two minutes two seconds ahrad of Ngaire (Hamilton), with Hopalong (Opotiki) 2m 30s later. Result: Hopalong 1, Endeavour 2. Korinnc 3. Idle Alongs.— Six competed, Valkire (Opotiki) getting the gun 2m 15s ahead of lona (Opotiki). with Ida (Hamilton) 28s later. Reesult: Robin 1. Ida 2. Bluebud 3.

Frostbites.—Eight boats faced the starter. J. Brooke, of Narrow Neck, in Kaitoa, led all the way, and finished 38s ahead of Aniwa. with Kanapu third. 30s later. Result: Tamurl 1. Aniwa 2, Kaitoa 3. % Silver Ferns.—Eight boats started, six from Hamilton and two from Auckland. Ariel led all the way. getting the gun 34 seconds ahead of the ex-Auckland champion Valarie, with Flying Cloud third. Result: Dorothy 1, Flying Cloud 2. Rosalie 3.

Tauranga Class.—Twelve boats started. Tui beine first away from a good start. Pal had the lead at the first mark and finished 39s ahead of Tiki. Result: Tui 1. Magpie 2. Pal 3.

The New Zealand championship for specially designed flags will be decided to-morrow in the six classes in conjunction with handicap races.
