J. Bicknell And Watson

Consistent

Tin- e\cuing meeting* of profe»

riuiial cycling were brought to a conclusion during the pact week at Western Springs, and the Otorohanga meeting this week-end will finally close

the track season

The Auckland Club's one mile event went to Ken. Matliieson (140 yds), with K. Watson (210 yds) second, and 11. IVlham (210 yds) third. The three place get tors and Hedlund combined well and lapping it out in good style held oil the ron of the field. Watson led down the back, but Mathicson took the lead from him at the 220 mark, and from then on was not seriously troubled to win by a length. Pelh.nu was the same distance away, inches in front of Hedlund. Time, 1.59. The winner is showing good form now and is nicely handicapped to score at Otorobanga. The 10-lap points handicap ended iu a win for Jack Whitten (handicap 3) 11 points. J. Wade (scr) 0 points, being second, and K. Watson (Si) 81 points, third. Whitten showed a glimpse of his true form when he cleared away from the field for half'the journey. He generally ride.- well at the- big meetings.

J. P. Sheehan and Horner Score. The Metropolitan Club also held two races. The half mile "flutter"' was won by the junior rider J. P. Sheehan (65vds). with J. Bicknell (20yds) 2, and M. Hodgins (15yds) 3. The field was bunched in the back straight when Hodgins opened up a gap of six lengtlie. He held this until the home straight when Sheehan and Bicknell both challenged on either side. Hodgins weakened near the line and was beaten by inches. He looked a moral winner—probably he thought so, too. Sheehan and Bicknell both finished in splendid stvle. Time. 01s.

The two-mile event was won by T. Horner (200 yds), -T. Bicknell (75yds) again being t*cond, with his brother Percy (scr) in third place. The winner, in electing to go on the outside of the field down the back straight, gained a break of two lengths, and from then on was not headed, winning easily. J. Bicknell got a run through.on the inside but could make no impression on the leader. Third man was half a length away. Combined Races. The combined races were both 10-lap points handicaps for A and B grade riders. The A grade event resulted: J. Wade (6cr)lj 23 points, 1; J. Bicknell (6), 19 points, 2; P. Bicknell (ecr), 15 points, 3. Time, 6.10 1-5. Wade was right on the job, sprinting in great style. In the B grade the result was: K. Watson (handicap 9), 16 points. 1; R. Flinkenberg (4), 14 points. 2; V. Hawkes (11), 13 pftinte, 3. Time, 6.29 1-5.
