CAUGHT IN CAR.
TWO MEN FOR SENTENCE. Smart work on the part of Detective F. Miller, in charge of the police night patrol car oarlv on the morning of March 28, resulted in the arrest of two young men in a converted car, which contained the proceeds of two burglaries committed by them. To-day Victor George Mosen (21), a brewer's assistant, and Jeffrey Corbett (21), an apprentice engineer, appeared in the Police Court before Mr. J. Morling, S.M., and pleaded guilty to charges of unlawfully converting to their own use a motor car valued at £75, and breaking and entering the shop of Hawthorne and Munro. at Manurewa, and stealing 3/ in cash and sundry papers, and breaking and entering the shop of C. A. Wheeler, 215, Great South Road, and stealing articles and copper coin of a total value of 7/9. Detective-Sergeant Xalder led evidence, which showed that between 7 and 9.45 p.m. on March 27 a motor car was removed from Havelock Street, City. The owner notified the police, and at 4.20 the following morning Detective Miller, while patrolling Great South Road, noticed the two accused in a car which he recognised by the number to be the one taken from the city. This car was trailed by the police to Newmarket, where both accused jumped from the car before it stopped, the car going on and crashing into a tree. Detective Miller and Constable Scott pursued both men and caught theni. Both the police car and the converted vehicle were slightly damaged. Mosen and Corbett were committed to the Supreme Court for senteiice. 1
