JIM BUCHANAN BROUGHT HOME MANY WINNERS.
Ho will be seated on the trainers' .stand at Ellerslic on Easter Saturday and Monday, dapper James Buchanan, these times a trainer, but in the yeare that have gone one of the most vigorous and best riders the Dominion has known. Could he. use the whip? Horses he rode knew the answer to that. Jim must have happy memories of many Easter meetings at Ellerslie. Juet glance through the records of the important events and you find his name, not once or twice, but several times. Thren times he kicked home the winners of the Easter Handicap, first in 1901 on Koecllu, owned by the Messrs. Ij. D. and X. A. Nathan, th.cn on Mr. Sinclair's Regulation in 1004. Merry Hoe, owned by the Oisborue -portsman. Mr. F. Hall, and trained by the. veteran, .lack Hae. Merry Koe, a four year -old, carried 0.0 and won well. Five times Buchanan was lirst home in the lireat Northern Oaks. Helen Portland in 1007 was his first winner in the fillies' classic, and in 1913 and 1!I14 he won respectively on Bleriot and Merry Hup, full listers'by Sotilt —Erry Km-. In 1017 he was again on the winner, Tressida, and in 1922 scored on Bonny Dureen. The records show he was on the wi« nors of the Croat Northern Chauipagn.Stakes on four occasions. ft]* rhvt winner in the race was K***"> in 190'«, and th.cn Kinir Billy in I'l't-i, Arran ill 1915, and Hymestra* in V.M7. Vc*. Jim will be there again this Easter, saddling up his team —not the worst, of which is Koyal Appellant, who won the Easter Handicap in 1930.
