CLUBS AND SOCIETIES.

Hew Women's Club.—The usual social afternoon with flower show was held on the last Friday of the month. The prizewinners were Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Legge and Mrs.- Otto. A mimical programme was enjoyed. The artists contributing were Mrs. Osborne and Mrs. McGregor, Miss Buckland and Miss Betty Brown. Mrs. Osborne also contributed humour. The accompanist was Mrs. Harper White. Mrs. W. B. Darlow presided. * • • • Daisy Chain Club.—The weekly meeting was presided over by the president, Mrs. Lord. The report of the first committee meeting since the election was k read by the secretary. Wool garments 'knitted by members were distributed to mothers for their sons on active service. • • • • Overseas League.—The year's activities opened in the league's rooms this week. Mr. C. M. Rattray, chairman of the executive, welcomed all members. A programme under the convenenship of Mrs. V. Bosworth was presented. Conveners of the various circles are:— Bridge, Mrs. A. B. French; house, Miss A. Sutton, programmes and drama, Mrs. V. Bosworth; emergency group and Red Cross, Miss E. Willoughby; official accompanist, Mrs. D. Bellingham. « • • » Thames Girls' Club (Inc.)— Mrs. H. Stubbing, president, welcomed members and friends, when the club held its first monthly At Home at the Druids' Hall, Newton. Mrs. Stubbing gave an address on the "Boys Overseas." Competitions were won by Mrs. King, Mrs.. Litherland and Mrs. Williams. Musical items were given by Misses Clarice Lawry, Clarence Bowman and Jackie Herivel. Madame Dunn was the accompanist. * » • • Avondale Women's Club. —The usual monthly meeting was held in the Blockhouse Bay picture hall, the president, Mrs. Beamish, presiding. Songs were sung by Mrs. Collier and Miss Thomas. A talk on "Reminiscences of Avondale" was given by Mrs. MeCready, and a paper entitled, "Reminiscences of Green Bay," prepared by Mesdames Annette, Greep and Earland, was read by Airs. Beamish. • • * * Penwomen's Club.—An address on New York City was given at the Penwomen's Club by Mr. E. G. Jones, who illustrated his talk by lantern slides. Mr. Jones recently spent nine months in New York, and described it as one of the world's "wonder cities." Speaking of the Empire .State Building, he said that its average daily population reached the amazing total of 40.00 C people, and the maximum number it could hold was estimated at 80,000. Vocal solos were contributed by Mrs Nora Bees. The president, Mrs. Helen Griffiths, presided.
