Promoted captain, lie was on the China Station until 1928, when he was appointed naval attache in Paris and later commanded the battleship Malaya. On his retirement from the Royal Navy in 1935 : lie was Director of the Signal Division' at the Admiralty. He became secretary | to the Governor-General of South Africa in 1936 and was subsequently appointed Director of Sea Defences.
