AIR LINER CRASHES.
LEADING OFFICERS KILLED. CAPETOWN". Mar. 30. Ten persons were killed when an air I liner crashed 100 miles north of tape-i town. Those killed included Kear- I Admiral C. W. Hallifax. Director of j South African Sea Defences. Colonel (i. ! P. Shearer. Deputy-Direct or of Teehni-j cal Services, and Colonel H. ( illiers. ' Director of Coastal Aircraft and Artil-I lery. | I Rear -Admiral Hallifax entered the Royal llvv in 1 s<)o and ro-e to the rank of commander in 1017. Promoted captain, lie was on the China Station until 1928, when he was appointed naval attache in Paris and later commanded the battleship Malaya. On his retirement from the Royal Navy in 1935 : lie was Director of the Signal Division' at the Admiralty. He became secretary | to the Governor-General of South Africa in 1936 and was subsequently appointed Director of Sea Defences.
