SYMONDS STREET PLAN.

COUNCIL APPROVES SCHEME.

The erection by the State of six blocks of flats comprising 103 units, with frontages to Symoiuls and Wynvard Streets, was approved by the Auckland City Council last evening.

Alternative plans were before the council, the proposal approved providing for four of the buildings on the lower side being served by a private road 30ft wide off Wynyanl Street, with the buildings set right up to the alignment.

The city engineer, Mr. .T. Tyler, said that this scheme more nearly approached compliance with the city requirements and would be accepted if the proposed roadway were wider and the structures set back.

Tho scheme was approved on the condition that the buildings were set back 7ft Oin and conformed with the by-laws, and the roadwav was made 33ft wide.
