ODDS 'N ENDS
HTHESE days we are "all ears" for A new ways of using up odds and ends of material and wool. Scraps which would once have been thrown away are now whipped together into a child's dress or a pair of slippers or a quilt. Ingenuity is all that is needed. Here are a few suggestions which use up small amounts of wool of any one colour. At the top of the drawing is shown a pair of gloves; the basis part of these (the wrist, fingers, and thumb) take about an ounce of wool, while the checked middle portion takes a halfounce or less of two or more colours. The walking socks to the right have
' turnovers of one or two colours, taking [ well under the ounce, and a plain foot. Here wool for the foot part would pro--1 bably have to be bought, as it would 1 take at least an ounce for each. Below • and to the left is a tea-cosy lady, worked • in a multitude of colours. Next to the • right are wool balls for a baby to play ! with; here again any lengths and colours ■ of wool are suitable. Next is a child's peaked hood, also in many colours, but i in this case neatly arranged; the bobs ! are in different shades. To the left ' below is a short scarf, in stripes of 1 different colours. The toys are made in • any colour in plain knitting stuffed with . wadding; a child does not mind pink or > green rabbits or a blue golliwog.
