TOWN CLERKS MEET.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE. WELCOME EXTENDED. The 12th annual conference, of the New Zealand Institute of Town Clerk? was opened this morning by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis. Sir Ernest expressed appreciation of the. work done by town clerk* and wished them a very pleasant stay in Auckland. Mr. T. Jordan, president of the Municipal Association, also made appreciative references to the. work of town clerks, especially during the past year. Mr. .1. Hardie, president of the institute, who replied, referred to the work of town clerks ill the present crisis. A paper on "Local Elections and Polls" was read by W. F. Sturman, of Invercargill. The conference is continuing this afternoon, when the election of officers will be held and general'business considered. Mr. S. T. Burnett, superintendent of staff training. Public Service Commissioner's Office, is also reading a paper on : "Public Administration."'
