NAVAL RECRUITS.
MOTUIHI TRAINEES.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR LEAVE. (P.A.) DUXEDIX, this day. The Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, stated this morning that he had received many letters from parents of men under training in the naval establishment at Motuihi Island regarding leave arrangements. Mr. Jonee pointed out that these recruits are undergoing a short period of intensive training for 13 weeks, and will not normally be given, except a half-term holiday from Friday afternoon to Monday morning, for men able to >be received in homes of relatives or friends in the Auckland district. No travelling warrant will be granted.
The Minister added that on the completion of the course all the ratings will •be granted at least 14 days' leave prior to drafting for service afloat. For this leave free travelling warrants will 'be issued. •
