FARES TO RACES.
PASSENGER SERVICES
NEW LICENSING PROPOSAL.
Applications for continuous passenger service licenses for services to and from racecourses, around Auckland, at separate fares, will closc with the secretary of the Metropolitan Licensing Authority to-morrow afternoon, and the term of the continuous licenses, if issued, I will be limited to one year. Services to and from racecourses havj been carried on in the pa-st under the authority of temporary licenses obtained by licensees before each race meeting. The step now contemplated by the Authority will avoid much repetition of work and, in addition, enable the Authority to introduce a system of rostering which should ensure that each lisensec will obtain approximately the same amount of work during race meetings. The secretary of the Authority pointed out to-day that no further licenses, either continuous or temporary, will be issued for race services during the «-urrcncy of tfce licenses now being applied for, except in exceptional circumstances. It was thus imperative for intending licensees to make immediate applications for continuous licenses. The fees payable in respect of the continuous licenses have been reduced to a figure equivalent to what would be paid for temporary licenses during the year.
