CHINESE ARRESTED.
SEQUEL TO CITY RAID.
ILLNESS OF ONE ACCUSED,
A police raiding party comprisinij Detective-Sergeants F. N\ Aplin and F. Brady, and Detectives W. H. Cromwell and F. X. Quin, used ladders and hacksaws to force their way into premises at 91, Grey's Avenue, about 7.30 last night. Two Chinese were arrested.
This morning Ak Koom, aged 39, fruiterer, and Ah Jong, ex-greengrocer! aged 61, were charged in the Police Court with being found in possession of prepared opium. There wae a further charge preferred against Ah Jong that being the occupier of the premises ho permitted them to be used for the purpose of smoking opium. Ah Jong did not appe-ar.
Mr. Dickeon appeared for both accused and asked that they be remanded until next Tuesday.
Detective-Sergeant Nalder explained that Ah Jong took ill in the police cells at 1D.45 this morning and had been attended by a doctor. It was not known when he would be able, to appear. In remanding both Chinese Mr. J. Morling S.M. fixed bail in each ca«se in a surety of £100.
