WAITEMATA CLUB. Jim Wait Pair Oars—Lively Water Conditions. The Waitemata Boat ins Club placed eight crews this afternoon in the annual set of pair oar trials for the .Jim Wait, trophies. The donor of the trophies. Mr. Jim Walt, is a foundation and life member, who throughout his lone connection with the club has taken the keenest interest in all its activities. Seven years ago. to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the club, he donated the trophy for the purpose of providing a contest for the young members. How well his ambitions have been fulfilled. To-day was the first occasion on which the veteran, who is now in his eighty-seventh year, has been unable to be present at the racing because of illhealth.
The waterfront course was used, and the races were rowed alternately up and down the course. Messrs. C. C. Cairns and W. Madden acted as judges and starters. Among the visitors were Mr. J. Collrell. M.P. tor Wanganul. The racing resulted-.—
C. Cairns and N. Mitchell beat M. Conwav and J. Ross by one length and a half; W. McGechie and B. Miller defeated D. Fraser and D. Mitchell by three lengths; M. Fitzgerald and M. Alison defeated R. Norton and A. Couchman by one length.
